Does anyone know who the guy was that was selling replacement front panels for the HQ-129X? or if anyone is doing resilk screening on these panels?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Hi Joe,

a few weeks ago, I've asked the same question to a company that did HQ129x silkscreen panels in the past...

http://www.electronicspecialtyproducts.com/

He replied however with the following; "Sorry, I no longer have them"

So, that makes two of us that would like to have information on this...  Wink

Hayseed Hamfest has advertised they are developing the capability to make custom overlays.  Give them a call.

Check with local T-shirt or Trophy shops, or machine shops.  They do silk screening, and can make exact duplicate of the art work if you still have the original face reasonably intact.   You may have to then do the stripping and repainting yourself.   Many custom shirt shops now use direct-to-fabric printers!

Depending on your budget and approach, you could layout an exact duplicate except now with engraved legends and send the work to Front Panel Express, or an equivalent outfit. It's one way to go. Maybe not any more expensive than a traditional re-do.

Hi Joe,

I had forgotten the guys name but he was in Florida so I am sure it was the same source.  You might give Howard, W3HM a call.  He has a lot of silkscreens for older gear.  He had one for my HT-9 and has many others.  He has an excellent screener.  If that works let me know and I will give you some more information about how you can have your local shop do the painting and his guy will just do the screening.  Then when you get it back send it back to the shop for clear coating and you will be all set.  If the gloss is more than you like you can always use wet / dry paper and bring it down a bit.

Merry Christmas!

I have some pretty decent used ones if you are interested.

Lots of other parts for them, too.

The Florida seller was where I got mine several years ago.  I restored a couple of these receivers and kept one.  The repro panels were nice but I vaguely recall he said he was getting out of them when I bought mine from him via ebay.

Look this guy up on QRZ for his email address. I am rather sure he is the guy who made them? He is somewhat of a grouch so if he is short with you, you know why Grin Grin Grin He doesn't have any listed on ebay right now but I think he may have in the past. Good Ruck OM. You can find him on eBay by the same handle.
