I am thinking of getting one of those Electronic Specialty Products SD-1 synchronus AM detectors for my newly aquired R390A.
It can connect directly to the 455Khz output on the receivers rear panel but it's output needs to be connected to an audio amplifier.
Could I just remove the jumper from terminals 14 and 15 (diode load).
(terminal 14 is out of the detector and 15 is into the limiter) and send the audio from the SD-1 back into terminal 15 ?
It looks (to me) like it should work.
Any thoughts on this approach?
Thanks,

You might be quite a bit better off with an external amp.  The R-390 is not hi-fi audio by any stretch.  A couple of 6V6's in push pull -- Eico HF-20, Heath AC-7/8/9, etc.  Problem is the audiophools bid these things out of the park.  There are many inexpensive modern SS amps that will give you much better audio than an unmodified R-390 audio strip, and won't set you back any where near what toobs will.

It depends greatly on the frequency response characteristics of the SD-1, and I know nothing about it.

Good chatting with you tonight, Don. Glad the Valiant didn't blow up either while I was talking to you!
