Hello AM Lovers,

Last night I were out of bed, to have a 'sanitaire stop'.
After that I walked to our livingroom and listen on 80 & 40 meters.
On 3875 I heard some weak/poor signals from AM stations.
Some freq. are in the Menory from the Kenwood R-5000.
Evenso 7290 khz and I heard a man speaking! Smiley
Mostly plenty bc are on or around that AM freq. to hear...

I made quick a recording, but it isn't a long recording... sorry.
Because a very strong (Chinese?) station came on air on 7295 khz.

The speaker on 7290 talking about 'pa'?
For me it is the first time I heard a station on 7290 khz so good.
You know the reason.... I mean bc stations blowing all AM lovers away!

Can someone tell me who I heard last night +/- 02.45 hour by me??
Below standing a little recording from this AM station.

Greetings,

Henk, pe1mph

That would be Tim, WA1HLR, I was listening to him around the same time. It doesn't surprise me that you heard him, I've heard him a few times using this remote SDR: http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ After that group got off (it was sometime before 0100 UTC), a broadcaster fired up on 7295, and there was another one down on 7280, so I got right in the middle at 7287.5 and called CQ for a while.

Shelby!
Thanks for this info about WA1HLR I heard on 7290 khz.
Correct about the BC on 7295 who came on air and blowing all away.
When I am at night again by my receiver....
I keep my 'eyes & ears' evenso around 7280 khz. Smiley

Henk,
PA is the official abbreviation for the state of Pennsylvania.  It is a local custom in the Northeastern states to refer to it as PA rather than the long name.

I think there was another station on there that was somewhere in Pennsylvania that he was referring to, but I couldn't hear that station because he was too close to me (I'm in the southern part of the state).

Thanks for the info!
I thought PA - The Netherlands Grin

This morning I listen again, around 04.15 hours.
On 7280 and 7295 khz very strong BC stations, sounding 'Chinese'?!

Yes, here on the East coast there are Chinese broadcast stations that make 7290 essentially unusable in the late afternoon, just as the band is opening up.

Correct!
Therefore I was happy to hear for the first time AM on 7290 khz.
Usually its for me not possible to receive AM from the USA on that freq.
For us 'Europeans' is a better AM freq. between 7160 - 7195 khz.
And do not forget, we may transmit in that part of 40 mtrs (not on 7290 khz!).

Phil,
On these freq. you can hear sometimes AM, from:
- The Netherlands +/- 7065 khz, during the afternoon.
- France +/- 7140 khz, in the late afternoon.
- Italian between +/- 7160 - 7195 khz, during the hole day.

But mostly only during (our) day time!

Last last night about 1:30Am I was tuning up on 7.160 for the AM Rally and had a QSO with AE5ZQ (Dan) usng my Halli HT-40 and receiving on the Icom 7200.

This was the first time ZQ had been on AM in many years.

Yup!  That was Timmy, WA1HLR, clearly identified near the end of the recording.  He was doing his "NiCad discharges, where he slowly drifts into sleep while talking on the air.  He's been known to zone out while talking.  I think he even left a dead carrier once - but maybe that one was one of those urban legends.

Good DX
