This is probably our follow up to the New York Times article mentioned in another thread here.

Richard W3NCC could have added a lot to this story. Someone here brought up Richard a few years ago wondering where he might be, so I set out on a two evening search till I found him. He was in a sad state in his life after losing his wife but he took the time to tell me about his times with KDKA. He, as I remember he was a studio engineer responsible for their orchestra broadcasts among other things. After reading this story it made me think that a historian should have recorded him as he spoke that day.
I have no idea of his state at this point. He lives only a mile away in a senior center.

It is good you visited W3NCC. It is really up to us to be the historian. Take a camcorder or tape recorder and let him tell his story. Post it here or someplace else.

This history is worth recording.

Notice the on the air "style" from these very distinguished OT ops!  After listening to Richard, it prompted me to pull up another similar style audio audio clip from my mentor, Harry - W3FDY (SK).  Notice the similar style of operation.  I would date this recording from the 50's.  Recording courtesy of WA3JYU.

Wow, he made it to 97 before checking out.  Not to shabby and should we all be so lucky and hopefully still be enjoying life!   Another good friend of mine, W3TTW just turned 97 and is still going strong.  Loves his CW operation.
