Any body here ever modified a Gates BC-1G to operate on 40 meters?
I see one for sale on QTH that is presently setup to run on 160 and 80.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,

It IS possible that someone has converted the BC1-G for operation on 40 M.

In general these Gates BC1 transmitters have yard-long Plate Tank leads,  poor isolation between input and output and so on.

So,  IMHO,  75 M can be a push and 40 Meters even more so.

On another hand,  if you were able to find a BC transmitter that has tight,  well shielded input and output circuits,  perhaps with Tetrodes,  operation on  40 M,  or even tri-banding a broadcast rig would not be that difficult.  AND,  some have gutted the Gates BC1 boxes  allowing a new layout that is much better,  but 833s and BC1s are not great for operation on 40 M,  again,  in my opinion.

Others may have different opinions.   Vic
