Well, finally got the last item in place for the generator: the privacy fence.  The biggest concern I had was that the generator really should have been put in the back yard but to save on the IR drop on the supply wire it was put on the east side of the shack.

I've included some pics for your viewing pleasure.

Al

PS:  I'll include the pics when the forum server gets caught up with traffic

That's the barrel distortion from using the zoom in it’s widest setting.  I should have tightened things up a little on the zoom.  You will notice the fence is leaning the other way.

It’s 14 KW but it’s fused at 8 KW due to wire size / length.  The deal was that I paid the same price for it as the 8 KW unit as it was a showroom item from the previous year with a current warrantee.

So "it was a showroom item from the previous year with a CURRENT warrantee".

That's fine, but what if the Voltage goes awry? Wink

Currently, the warranty likely has the potential to rectify that failure mode with great frequency.

Nice generator Al. Is that just to power your big 3 phase a.m. transmitter, or are you also using it for the house? Grin

That's a real pro setup. Nice to have gas. Lucky on the fuses and wire. The city made me upgrade my fuse box from 100 to 200A because the generator was rated 165A. The city inspectors didn't want to hear about a smaller fuse size or anything else. The funny thing is the wires from the service connection to the utility pole are still quite small, 8 gauge or maybe a bit less. Mine's also diesel, not cheap to run any more. I'd sure like a gas one.

Now to build a "big rig" to consume all that it can deliver Smiley!

Brandon: It powers the whole house including my station that runs legal limit AM

Patrick:  It actually was an upgrade for an existing generator system.  Yes, I originally had to upgrade the main panel to 200 amps but I took that as a required upgrade and am glad I did it.

Steve: “Little” huh?

Joe: Actually, when I get the “E” rig on the air, it will be consuming even less power than the present hollow state final does.

Anyway, after going through the deluge and power outage in 2012, I decided that lifting a 6 gallon can of gas wasn’t going to be a good fit when I’m 80+ which is only 4 years away.  This way I just have to call up the gas company and they deliver the fuel.

You'll be good to go with the backup generator. My parents had a nice whole-house generator with switch panel and it kept lights and fridge and freezer going. Propane gas unit. It could not handle the central A/C unit.

Wow, your on the big grid and I amp surprised that you ever have an outage? BTW, how much would it cost to have a 150 mile extension cord cost to my camp?
