Transformer construction question..........

Hi All,
 What makes a modulation transformer different from an interstage audio transformer? Is there a difference in how they are constructed? Diffferent core and insulation materials?

mod transformer:

1. higher voltage insulation on the wire (different varnish sometimes)

2. core may be gapped if it is intended to pass the DC current from the RF amp. This delays saturation.

3. physical attributes due only to power or voltage level like ceramic insulators, etc.

other stuff too. My knowledge of fine detail of them is limited.

A good interstage (or input) transformer will have laminations made with high nickel content steel.

Mod transformers typically use grain-oriented silicon steel.
