W1WCR & his beverage antenna handbook

In organizing my radio ready material I came across and excellent book written by Vic, W1WCR on Beverage antenna's. 

I use to talk to Vic quite a bit on AM but have not heard him on in years.  I checked QRZ.com and he is still licensed.  Does anyone remember Vic and has anyone had any contact with him.

I think you'll find Vic running the "Liberty Net" just about any late Saturday night around 3975khz +/-. I'll not comment on the subject matter of that net here, but you may want to gird your loins.

I go past his home several times a week as it is about 3 miles and on my way to grocery shopping.

That book just shows you how far we have come in understanding since it was written. These days it is a curio and even Low Band DXing by ON4UN is in its 5th revision.

When I first tried a 2 wire Beverage in the early 80's I found that nothing worked as published and persistent questioning him got me nowhere. Having access to a VNA and other RF test equipment at work led to a deeper understanding of ferrites and using field measurements rather than fixed numbers to disprove many assumptions.

Ive rebuilt and/or incrementally modified my Beverages over the years to where Im very pleased with them.

I have two different versions of the BA Handbook. The last time I studied them, I didn't find a single thing in there that was useful. I almost threw them both away.

I think you'll be a lot happier with a Beverage design from ON4UN's latest book.
