More glacial progress....a D104 came in the mail yesterday. Still awaiting electrolytics from JustRadios in Canada. Apparently, customs and the like really slows down delivery. Getting there SLOWLY.

And Mouser, DigiKey, etc have very similar prices, top brands and ship same day.

All I got out of Canada was a coupe of defective no name/made up name China crap electrolytics. The 'net is full of examples.

OK, parts came in yesterday, so we'll warm up the iron shortly. I'll post pix as well of the underside of the radio. Justradios seems to have a good reputation, but are just a bit slow. The problem with digikey and mouser is there are SO MANY items in their search criteria from which to choose.

It's never humorous cleaning out the remnants of a capacitor burst from all over the underside of a chassis.

I'm sure its not. The mess I worry about is the stuff that dies because the cap went KABLOOEY!!

The "cheap" doesn't apply in this situation. Ordered from these folks based on the recommendation of a close/friend neighbor; he had no issues with his cap order after installation in his Viking 2.

You can also use sort of a hybrid search on Mouser that will take you to the catalog page where you can then browse that and similar products.  Choose the enhanced catalog and you can click from the catalog to the manufacturer's data sheet for further information.

Mouser will also send a printed catalog if you request it and they are a handy supplement to the online search process.

Notice the first photo. Sometime in this Valiant's life it had a ZORCH near L44 and R62. The caps are MIECs with a lot of spaghetti included.

I wonder why your "MIEC" caps are not listed on their web site?

Any opinions about the original zorch marks? The old electrolytics do not appear original, and the multisection cap was dated 7/62, which tells me this work is overdue. I'll end up doing this anyway, but I'd prefer to get it all done before I start putting hours on the exciter and then have a major failure.
