http://travel.cnn.com/scientists-undiscover-sandy-island-south-pacific-560026?hpt=hp_c3Must have been some sort of data entry error or spoofing that has gone on undetected for a while. I recently came across one on the Windfinder.com website while checking wind forecasts during the recent hurricane. The forecasts for New London Harbor made no sense, would be calling for 3 to 4 knots when New London Ledge, less than 2 miles away, was showing predictions for over 60 knots. I figured out the problem when I clicked on the "Nearby Locations" link for New London Harbor and found myself looking at a map of the west coast of Chile. Problem was caused by someone using a negative vs a positive latitude for the New London Harbor coordinates in the Windfinder database. I dropped them an email and it's now fixed. Well, now at least I know what's opposite New London in the Southern Hemisphere.
