hi guys,

i've been away for a while now and havent had many chances to check this forum (or to really work on many electronics projects).

i am about to build the 13.8V/5A power supply from the 2011 ARRL handbook (section 7.16.3). i am ordering all the hard to find parts right now. i've found pretty much everything i need except i am little unsure about the ac line filter. the article doesn't specify any details about the filter and i have never used one before.

would this be a suitable filter: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390440056714

also could anyone recommend an inexpensive 120v-primary/20v secondary/5A transformer?

Get the type that has the IEEE AC power plug on it.  Or steal one from a computer power supply. They panel mount, have a filter and will take any standard Ieee power cable.

Antek is quality stuff
The line filter you show will work. The IEC socket from an old computer supply will give you a nice clean interface to a line cord.
