Timtron is about 10db over S9 on the big '85  here in Northern California tonight (9:30 p.m. local).

I worked Tim for about 1 hour on my DX-100. My antenna is a 200 foot long dipole up 60 feet.

About a 2700 mile path from my QTH to Tim.

Yes the infamous 'HLR antenna tests were conducted, his wire array about 10 over S9, his 160m ant was about S8.

He was a steady S9 for over 3 hours here.

72 and over to you...

Any recordings?

Especially if he was conducting continued experiments into "Antenna A,"  and "Antenna B."

He's probably got that big amp working now. A quad of 4-1000's

Paul, Antenna "A" and "B" is a standard test. It's always interesting to hear the responses.

I think I was in the same QSO.  There were stations in Wyoming and WA State as well.  Skip must have been long that night, since distant signals were unusually good.  Timtron was already strapping in here, receiving with the TX antenna, but then I switched to the beverage and he sounded like a local.  He said he was running only 200w, with a modified Globe Scout (or was it a Globe Chief?) feeding a leen-yar. (It was the Globe rig with the single-tube modulator, but he had changed from Heising modulation to using a transformer.)

The beverage, which is directed towards the northeast, didn't work so well with the stations out west.  QRN was pretty heavy that night, but I could hear everyone fine except for the CA station, which was about 50% readability.

Oh yes, the wire array was about 20 dB stronger than the 160m antenna.  Smiley

I'll have to start listening more.  I have a nice Panasonic portable in my apartment.  Sometimes I can hear 3885 activity (vice regular 3870) but is not that strong.

When I lived here the last time (1999-2002) I could hear the East Coasters come in around around 10PM....sometimes quite strong.  First time I ever heard Bud in Lorrain was while doing SWL from LA (San Pedro) on my old SX-99.

One night heard Timmy about 40 over S9 on 3870--wall to wall--and took me a few minutes to realize he was operating short skip from NO6NM.

Looking forward to moving VA shack out here to real QTH this summer.
