PP 814s in October 38 Ham Tips

Does anyone have any thoughts one way or the other on the PP 814 schematic that RCA published in Ham Tips?  I'm thinking about building an Old Buzzard style transmitter with 814s modulated by the 811A Modulator in the Orr Handbook.  I have a Millen 90800 to possibly use as the exciter.  Usage would be mostly on 160 and 75 although I'd like to try it on higher bands as well.  As I don't have much experience in this arena I'd like to stick to established plans for my first build to make it a little easier on myself.  Am I headed in the right direction or completely lost?

Aug 1960 QST has plans for a single 814 tx. 807 mod

That is a good design.  814's are still about, tho terminally gassy ones need to be selected out.

804's and 828's will do as well.  803's will jump the output a bunch if used & fed.

The 814 is a nice tube and that circuit is generic enough for 813's or most any other multi grid tube of the era.

Maybe Im lucky but the 814's that came with both the HT-9's here plus about 6-7 NIB spares I picked up in the $5 range all tested fine. Many overlook the VT-154 as its seldom dual labled.
