" The Captain was a bean counter? "

No, he was English.

The stuff they bring up has to be from the 'debris field' around the ship.

Its the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic this evening.

I believe that the anniversary of the events will occur at 11:07 pm EDT on April 14, 2012 (struck iceberg) and 1:47 am EDT on April 15, 2012 (sank).  Good excuse to toast with your favorite beverage, on ice of course.

A couple more radio related pages for you:

Titanic radio page including some of the wireless traffic between the Titanic and many maritime and land based stations.

Interesting page about Artie Moore, the "amateur" radio operator who heard the distress call 3000 miles away in Wales.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artie_Moore

Only known photo of the Titanic radio room, taken by a priest who was on the Titanic for the first leg of the journey and disembarked prior to the Atlantic crossing.  Yes, its a double exposure.

I was talking with a Navy vet co-worker about the Titanic this past week.  He says that if an aircraft carrier went down today there aren't enough life boats for everyone.

I conducted a ceremonial reading of THE RADIO BOYS with the ICEBERG PATROL, and was well underway at the appointed hour.

For those not familiar, this is a "juvenile series" like Tom Swift that came out a few years after the Titanic. About a dozen episodes with the same characters were written.

Putting "wireless" in some adventure stories reminds me of our Rolling Rock series of events and AM festival stations, as well as the AM Expeditions to various places that have taken place over the years.
