i have been using a pmsdr for a while and i really like it along with hdsdr.

my uncle just gave me a ft-857d that was in a truck he bought. i really like how the face can attach up in the front of the truck and you do not have to deal with the size of the radio. you can just put it under the seat.

anyways can this rig feed some sdr software and make a better rx'er then the pmsdr? or should i just stick it in the truck and use it there?

just looking for some ideas on the best way to put this rig inter service.

also if anyone has a mic that will work on it let me know. just a simple mic or an adapter would be fine. i dont need all the buttons and stuff on the mic.

Brandon,

I have used my FT-897D (same internals as the 857D) with a SoftRock IF board and it worked fine but I doubt that it worked any better than what you are doing now with the PM-SDR and HDSDR. I tapped the 455 kc IF at the point where the optional filter slots are and ran shielded cable out through the back panel and terminated it with a female RCA jack to allow interfacing it with the external SoftRock. If I were you I'd use the 857D as it is since it's a fairly clever package.
