When I turn the main tuning dial the frequency wheel does not move.
If I push in on the knob then turn it the frequency dial moves.
I can't tell if there is a string behind the front panel or is it the tuning
shaft the problem.  Looking at the manual I can see the Dial string photo
but that is what is on the top side of the radio direction in front of the
main variable.

Any remove the front panel that can tell me what the main tuning knob
shaft is all about.

Thanks
Ken

Kevin,

I also posted the following response to your post on ARF:

A pinch wheel mechanism directly drives the left hand dial (your left looking from the front) and the tuning capacitor and then the other dial vial the dial cord linkage.

If the pinch wheel or dial disc have oil or residue that will cause slippage, a cotton tip is useful for cleaning both the pinch wheel and the edge of the disc. But also make sure that the tuning capacitor rotates smoothly (bearings need lube? thrust bearing load too high if you cleaned and lubricated it?) and make sure the second dial is also turning smoothly. But the most likely issue is oil/contamination on the dial disc and pinch wheel.

Hello Carl,

And I will post the same solution here too.
An update. I found the problem. Behind the fly wheel there is a nut.
The nut had some red loctite on it so I never gave it a thought.
I checked and it was loose. Tighten it and now no slip. The nut must
pull in the shaft which is what I was doing by pushing in from the front side.

Posting at different forums increases the probability for a response.
If a solution should be found more people benefit.

Sounds a lot like the NC-300 he asked similar questions about doesnt it?
