15 is open like 10 was a few months back.  I will be in the office all day with the GK500/SX28A on 21.415.  Lets try to make a few contacts.  I guess its open across the cont US.

Right now, I just hear SSB,  South america and Canada stations mainly.  Never made a contact on 15 in the AM mode so this should be fun.

On now with Rick, Tim, and pss dave.  Decent signals.  Problem is my GK500/sx28a combo had trouble. The SX28a is dead on 15 meters.   I had to switch to the FT101EE.  20 watts am Sad

There's nothing wrong with 20 watts of carrier on 15m.  When 15 is happening, like 10m, you don't need much to get out well.  I use my FT-301SD for 20m & higher AM, quite often.

I've been having fun on 15 meters in the morning and afternoons this past week, as noted in another thread.  I think 15 meters is "open" stateside every day.   I hear other modes on 15 all the time during daylight hours.  It's just a matter of promoting some activity.  Unlike 10 meters, there is going to be an opening most days, but some days it will be really good and whirlwide.

20 watts of carrier is okay when the band is opened really good.  BUT most days, there is QSB and weird propagation anomalies that having some power at hand will help to overcome.  My Viking II plays okay during those squirrely times but Trons Junkston 600 or Robert VMC's rig and high loop really play well, as my experience yesterday showed.
