AF6IM jumping from a C54G, 1999 Quincy Illinois.

This big AM CW xmtr seen in garage at a SK house for sale, looked like a Navy or BCB xmtr but had band switch marked with ham bands. Roughly 6 ft high, row of meters across the top. Couldnt find any data plate, but a label on the back said something like Adapted for Amateur Radio Use by Allied Radio, Chicago. looked 1940s or early 50s vintage.

What is the history of Allied Radio converting commercial or mil xmtrs for ham use?

I may be able to visit again and get some photos. Looked like it was in the middle of some repair, not plug and play, but far from a basket case.

Mark,

Why would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane??

Nice of you to stop by the forum tonight.

We'll probably need some pics of that xmtr.  Although, there may be someone here familiar with Allied Radio Chicago to answer your questions.
