There were reports for years of Mountain lion up in Norther NH/VT area.  The "Experts" denied it for a long time, with the line that they were extinct etc.  Someone finally brought back photos, maybe other physical evidence as well.   Those big cats are beautiful, but deadly. They will take a human if they can, after all, they eat meat, we're made of meat...

SCDNR claims the deer population in upstate SC is down 30-40 percent due to coyotes . I havent seen any sign of that. There is a buck who comes around at night and drives my female Jack Russell crazy.

Haven't hunted in 2 years due to lack of time (I'd rather be trawl shrimping ) My 25-06  will reach out and touch them though. That's my favorite weapon for them.

The XYL revoked my two legged deer tags... but I still scout 'em.

The DEC folks always seem to pooh-pooh reports of mountain lions, even when there are pictures, tracks, etc. We were delivering some horses to a ranch out near Albany way a couple of years ago where they were having problems with one, and heard one that night. Bone chilling sound. I would not want to confront one of those, even well armed. They are ambush predators, you might not know they were there till they were on you.

Out in Arizona I was 4 wheeling near a friends camp and went down in the dry river bed, away from the other folks. A few minutes along, I noticed large paw prints on the ground and decided it was time to turn around and rejoin the group before I met the owner.  Shocked

25-06 is a nice caliber. A little more punch and reach than a .243, but not too much recoil. Both are nice medium calibers.
