Here is probably the best movie of the final flight of the Galloping Ghost.

"This is the best video that I have seen yet on the final flight at the Reno Air Races, of the 'Galloping Ghost'. She crashed and 11 lives were lost. At the end of the video, you can see the left elevator trim tab breaking loose and departing the aircraft. Telemetry reports indicate that just prior to that, the aircraft experienced an 11g positive load, which I would suspect would have rendered Jimmy Leeward into a blackout. It may even have caused the seat to fail."
