or is the entire internet running slow tonight? I'm getting a lag of 15 to 20 characters while typing a message here on the forum.

Way too fast here! I can't keep up. In actuality, the system seems fine here in Allbaloney, NY.

Vewy, vewy stwange. Still got the delay here and when I clicked on the "Reply" button it took about 20 seconds for the window to open so I could type this pitiful missive.

Oh well. Stuff occurs...

aaahhhhh, when you open a page to type a message you are typing the text locally on your PC. The data gets sent to amfone when you click on Post or another applicable control on that screen.

Since I last posted, I restarted my browser and all seems to be working fine now. Looks like Sam had the right call on the situation. Weird. First time that's ever happened. Not the first time Sam's been right, but the first time there's been that delay in my typing. ;-)

I had that  problem a couple of weeks ago.  It was kind of sporadic.  There would be  no lag, then intermittently about a 3 second delay. I ran C Cleaner and Malwarebits, closed out the browser, then re-started the computer and it has worked fine ever since.

Whenever this happens, I just pick up the computer, shake it a few times, and all is better.

interesting, notice how between 10/7 and 10/8 there was a big downward spike in traffic at the same time there was a huge upward spike in packet loss.

I am on Comcast......and it was creepy here Sunday morning. Slower than dial-up.
OK today Monday morning 7AM.

Or maybe a data center went down for maintenance?? or crashed?
There's a lot of things we do not hear about to make badness happen.

I get that problem quite often. After a big battle with a virus and a bunch of adware/malware a few years ago, I now run 2 anti virus programs and Malwarebytes too boot. Havent had a virus/malware problem since. However.....................

Sometimes they all dont want to play nice together, and things slow down to a crawl. Usually a close out and reopening of my browser and everything is honkey dorey again.

Also, if you are running Wierd-Os they will download you with their "automatic updates" usually at the worst times. If you do not have a good internet connection, and you dont pay attention to see that it is doing that, they will slow things some as well.

(I am running an older 2.4 machine with XP)

A few good shots of WD-40 in each side of your machine should speed things up, works here.

I use Linux Ubuntu 11.04 with Firefox 7.0.1 and don't have any problems. Laptop is a 9yr old HP running at 2.4gig. It is usually faster than the Time Warners so called high speed cable internet. This site almost always comes up instantly. Occasionally it is a bit slower, but then everything else is too.
