Does anyone know how the old RCA graphite plate tubes were gettered?
The data sheet mentions they were "direct gettered" but I am not able
to find an explanation as to what "direct gettered" implies.
Did the gettering method change between the early graphite plates and
later metal plate 813 tube versions?

Probably refering to directly heated getters.

This page has a full explanation of getters.
