My day yesterday:

  • Go to air condx office in Tewksbury
  • Meeting in air condx conference room
  • Travel to Sudbury site in air condx Crown Vic
  • Hold meeting with plant manager in air condition antenna range
  • Go home to HVAC Shack and keep schedule with friends
  • Clean back yard pool in 86 degree water after sunset

Life doesn't get much better than this

Happy, Hot Summer Daze

Seems to be a repeat of 1935-1936, global warming notwithstanding

Here's a nice analysis by Weather.com.  They too compare this year to the dust bowl years, 1936 in particular.  Lots of nice data and maps here.

We have an open back porch that faces the East and currently its 106.9 out there.  The front porch faces West and that is a mild 96.4.  The humidity is extremely high and its just plain miserable outside.  Not many cars out and about and people are staying inside.

The grass crunches and the only thing that is growing is the weeds.

Next week looks somewhat better.

Two years ago we had a colder than normal July that was close to being the coolest on record.  The following winter we had an extreme amount of snow locally that was also near record setting amounts.  As a kid during the 50's I remember quite a few Julys with week long near record high temperatures.  I'll be more than glad to deal with these temperatures than having to go out and move snow every day for three weeks like we had to do two years ago.  At least you don't have to shovel the heat!

We like to watch the maid do that ! The little French Maid bikini outfit is perfect for the job. Although she is more "interesting" when the water is a bit colder.

NWS in State College PA is indicating 102F, but the dewpoint is 48F or 16% RH.
Maybe their dew cell dried up in the heat.   Seems like Arizona.

One of the guest writers for the Lowell Sun who is 89 wrote about that in todays edition John. There was talk about a machine that was supposed to make cold air and the people thought the guy was smoking wacky tobacky.

AC actually did get installed in NYC in a very few places in 32.

Wow!

"The mercury in Newark, N.J., reached 108, the highest temperature ever recorded in the city. Philadelphia hit 104. Boston and Teterboro, N.J., reached 102 and Providence, R.I., 100. New York City hit 104 degrees, just 2 short of its all-time high, and with the oppressive humidity, it felt like 113."

104 straight air temp in NYC and Philly, plus the heat island effect, all of that asphalt radiating overnight..No mercy.

Wow, those chicken wings must be over done and the watermelon
must be  one ice! I used to live in East Orange, NJ and I was there in Newark during the 1967 race riots. My car was hit with bricks on the way home and state troopers from NJ were in a US Army jeep in front of me. I often wondered if the bricks were meant for the troopers and the people throwing them didn't adjust their aim for the speed of the vehicles. The troopers were armed with mounted 30 caliber machine guns which must have been US Army issue.

They actually made the forcast today! Official high was 105 (at the airport) and 107 at the customs house downtown. Broke a bunch of records. Too hot for me, it's good and cool in my A/C'ed house! ! ! ! ! ! !

My wife and I hate the heat but today we spent the day with my daughter's inlaws family at there place on Great Sacandaga Lake in up state NY. The beach as some shade, the water was great, the beer was cold. We had a couple of boat rides on my daughter's 19 footer and then a nice BBQ. It was warm up there but had good breeze most of day. My grand kids had a great time swimming with me. A perfect way to spend a summer day.
