Actually, we were driving in from Tucson, and followed it in.  What a monster with 70 MPH winds, over 100 miles wide.

The video even shows a Southwest airliner caught in it over Sky Harbor.

Friggin' dust everrywhere and flooding here at the QTH... Tongue

And to think it all started from a Jack Rabbit fart against a sand dune. Shocked Shocked Shocked

Ya know, we smelled something in the breeze & thought it was some cars' cataclysmic perverter.

So it might have been Roger Rabbit! Wink

The dust caused some problems with the electrical system there?

LOL, I seldom hear 'em called "haboobs"

Some years ago I was in Khartoum, Sudan, which is one of the most miserable places on the face of the earth.  I was on my way back to the hotel from work in a Suburban when one of those bad boys blew in.  It got pitch dark in a matter of seconds and it was accompanied by a nasty electrical storm and it ended up raining mud, the wipers on the Suburban could barely move, and etched the glass with scratches.  I'm actually surprised the thing kept running with all the dirt in the air.

My colleagues living there had to duct tape their doors and windows or they'd get several inches of dust in the house after one of those.

John,

Growing up on the MS gulf coast there was too much rain for a dust storm and it took a hurricane to get the beach sand off of the ground.  Three years in Lubbock TX was bad enough, I wouldn't have lasted a week in the Sudan area.

After moving to IL I traded in the Monte Carlo SS I had out there and the salesguy noted that the privacy glass in his shower was clearer than my windshield.  The paint held its gloss (waxed and covered) but the windshield suffered.  Probably the fastest 5 miles I ever ran was on the return trip to the university after seeing a wall of dust heading for me.  I made it with maybe 2 minutes to spare.  Dust storms are one of the MANY things I don't miss about Lubbock. The winds took my chunk of the grid down for a bit over 3 hours.
