While monitoring 75 last night, I heard Tim make  his  last AM transmission.  He said he was sick and tired of battling the slopbuckets, ice storms, snow up to his ass, rig crap-outs, and stumbling about in a fog the next day after playing too much late night radio. He says he is looking forward to living out the remainder of his declining years with Marcie in a comfortable little suburban ranch house in a sub-division development at the edge of town in Portland.  He has found a buyer for HLR mountain, and figures he will get enough money for it to purchase the house they have already spotted for sale, and with the current economic situation making it a buyer's market he decided to clinch the deal.  He is getting the new house for a good price, and the purchaser of his old property is making a once-in-a-lifetime offer he can't refuse.

He may not give up ham radio entirely, he says. He is considering purchasing a Flex or some other kind of SDR, or else an FT-1000D, and believes he will have room enough to put up a G5RV, if he can convince the HOA to grant him permission.  To make a clean-cut impression, he has cut his hair and shaved, and now sports a crew-cut with no facial hair except a small, pencil-thin moustache.  He mentioned that he might still get on AM occasionally, but plans to work mostly SSB and maybe a little PSK.

So I say farewell, OM; it's been real and maybe our paths will cross on the air again once you get your new station running and I happen to be tuning across 75 with the BFO on.  I'll be monitoring 3892 and 3878, and maybe I'll catch you on the Marconi Net.   Cry

Heheheh.... I like the crewcut and pencil-thin mustache.  Indeed.

Was just on 75M with Tron. Brent read him the April Fool's script. He got a good laugh while on his SBE swinging wildly in the wind. All is still normal at HLR Mountain on April 1st.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

Had me fooled,  I thought it was for real until I read the later posts.

Don,  you're a pretty good story teller.  What other fairy tales have you been telling us all these years??

I wonder if there would be some sort of a chain reaction if someone sent Tim a 455kHz. Softrock powered by a wall wart. He does have a computer.

Apparently I'm missing a lot without SWL ability.  Yes nothing like Spring Time In New England Near a mountain top. One never knows If they can slide down hill through the muck and if they could ever return to the top before May or June.

If one could we would live on the mountain top in summer and become a valley person in the winter to be able to travel in and out without MUCK issues.

Cabin Fever is not good when MUCKED in for several months.  73  GL Tim & Marcie

Snow uppa de ass is one thing but Snow and MUCK uppa derere is not neat

Me thinks the subject line is "Timtron quits MUCK" or icy, snowy, mud

Now Don, not the macroni noodle net. You do know Freddy Freihoffer has a nut shortage !

CW is just a narrower version of AM

« Reply #22 on: April 03, 2011, 07:00:35 AM »

Perfect Don - people have been talking about this for days now and it even came up on the Military net yesterday. Tim is always out there listening. I can put up the weakest and worst mobile signal from the shortest and most inefficient antenna ever conceived at 2 PM in the afternoon testing in the driveway, and he will suddenly appear on frequency.
