That was pretty neat. Would they need clearance to use the airspace before flying? Looks like another expensive hobby.

I posted these a couple years back. Amazing stuff since it uses real ducted fans. It not only looks real, it sounds real. Love the whistling of the turbines.

First the test flight:

Then the crash:

Gusty winds were apparently the cause of the crash. Impressive plane, equally impressive plume. IIRC, the guy had $45-$50K into it.

The first B-29 was a nice model. Great looking plane. But the rolls turned me off. If you're going to fly a model, try to stick with what the real aircraft might have done. Aileron rolls aren't commonly done with a B-29. If you're flying a model P-51, or other fighter, go for it. But I'm guessing there were damn few rolls done in B-29s.

The second B-29 flew good, but lost me with the 2-blade props. Not good.

The BUFF sounded good and looked good. Damn shame it crashed.

Overall, neat videos.

Turbine powered models are amazing. This sure looks like an expensive hobby. Ham radio, coin op antiques, guns and my '56 Tbird just about do me in.  Grin Grin

"But I'm guessing there were damn few rolls done in B-29s."

I took flying lessons in Yuma, AZ back in '81, and while waiting for clearance to enter the active runway saw a (then) Douglas DC-9 do a full roll on the downleg of a touch-n-go.

Pretty impressive at around 1000' altitude....

Turns out the only people on board were three A&P guys.

Loved the sound of the B-29's 4 4 bladed props roaring away and the Doppler shift on them during the fly-bys.  Should play the audio from the B-29 video and mix it in with the sound of the DY-17A dynamotor the next time I "fly" with the ART-13 and BC-348 on the Old Milrad net to add to the authenticity,,,,

Everyone's a critic.

I guess I should ONLY use a D104 on my Viking 1 instead of the MXL990 cause that's the way it was done in the 50's???  Roll Eyes
