this Merit unit is rated to provide both 1000VDC (2160 vct) at 125 mA and
400VDC (1000 vct) at 150 mA. It has a common ct.

Is it safe to assume that the wire used in the secondary is gauged to
handle 275 mA ? after all there's 275 mA going through the
secondary up to the 400V taps when this xfmr delivers it's ratings.
Or does the wire gauge change after the 400V taps ?

I'm asking to see whether I can use this to get 1000VDC (choke input)
at 200 mA.

Peter,

As long as it was designed to provide both outputs simultaneously then 275 mils through the center tap is not a problem.

It sounds like you are only going to use the 1000 volt winding?  If so then 200 mils from this winding with choke input should be OK.  But I wouldn't load the 400 volt taps at all under these conditions.

thanks Rodger. The Merit catalog has a double-dagger footnote for this
xfmr that reads "for dual operation with simultaneous use of both sec.
ratings."
