The slide rule thread made me think about a handheld mechanical calculator I had when I was a kid.

It looked like the one in the photo below.  I was in grade three and I left it in my desk in school one day and unfortunately the school burned down that night so I never saw it again.  Sad

I used a device something like this one in Calculus 203. It was called an Abacus.

Ha, ha! I remember them. You cleared them by lifting up on the top bar and pulling it all the way until it stopped.

I had an Addiator!

My grandfather gave it to me.
It was green (iirc) and much thinner than the one pictured in the above post.

Came with an aluminum stylus, iirc...

Kewl beans!
