"Let's go kayaking, Tommy!" - Yaz

« on: February 03, 2011, 12:58:19 PM »

I've been trying to come up with a gag name for the new HPSDR rig. (high performance software defined radio) I want it to fit in with the other tribal members - "Fabio", Rico Suave" and "Dr. Love".

Todd/KAQ said in an email that someone named their kid "Precious" - and axed, who in their right mind would do that?  Grin Grin  I thought that was pretty funny and then thought it was the best name I've heard so far for the new rig.  (Yeah, it's so precious I may throw it against the gawd darned wall if it beats me up any more.)

So please submit your name choices. The winner will have the thrill of having the rig named in their honor. In the case of a local winner, I will also buy them an apple crisp at the next Near-Fest. How's that for appreciation?  Wink

Stay tuned - you might see a good name for your own rig.

Any ideas?

T

* As you can see from pic #1, there's a clean canvas on the front panel for a funky name.  hmmm... that should say 160-6M.

Tom,

I'll suggest "Half Pint", from what Pa called the kid on "Little House on the Prairie".

I'd suggest Mr. Piddles because it "piddles" out power.

piddle [ˈpɪdəl]
vb
1. (intr) Informal to urinate
2. (when tr, often foll by away) to spend (one's time) aimlessly; fritter
[origin unknown]

Hey now - that was me, Mr. Plexi-King. Also said Precious could be the luv interest of Dr Love. Who knows, maybe you'll wake up to a batch of HTs running around the radio room?

I'll be watching for the royalties check in the mail!  Grin

I corrected it in the first post, sorry, Todd. Credit where it's due.  I've been getting so many gag emails from youse guys I've lost track of who's saying what.. Grin

Buddly, a modified version of your name choice could be "Smuggly" - that's kinda appropriate and almost sounds like "Buddly".   HA!

Sgt Anderson was an attention-getter. Enhanced greatly by Tom's appearance at Hosstraders sporting a crew cut.

I got a huge kick outta hearing Sgt Anderson on the air, and have missed his intimidating presence for many a-year.

Sgt Andersen got me hook line and sinker once.
Reeled me in like a big cat fish
The only mistake Tom made was not recording him cranking me to critical mass. Classic April first

Uncle Fester would be the PERFECT name for some big ol' homebrew Frankenmitter with the big pole insulators, fan meters, and a coupla monster knife switches. "Hang on while I fire up Uncle Fester!".

Tom, if you decide against using Precious or some other equally-appropriate girly name, the only other one that really fits is Little Richard. I mean, just from the pictures you posted, the resemblance is uncanny. Stuff hanging out, going in all directions, eyes bugging out, like it just let out a big ol' "YEOOOOOW!". And definitely a bit on the girly side!   Kiss

LEELOO!  Now that jumps out at me!

Female, cute, sassy, smart, high tech.   Dr. Love, Fabio and Rico Suave, all males, would love to have something like that in the harem.   Grin

Good entry, Tim.  There's a few more names posted that are good too.

BTW, cool QRP portable CW rig on your QRZ.com. What is that?

Figured it would work for that very reason  Grin

The rig on my QRZ page is my beloved Elecraft KX1. The key is a Soviet Spetznaz key. Fun combo!
