I've always enjoyed talking to John, N1MMD on his GRC-9 over the years. I could hear him surprisingly well all the way from Maine to the mid-Atlantic region. Not bad considering the manual claims only 10 miles on AM.  Wink

It's all in the wiring harness.  Grin

Back in the mid 90s when Rich 'ETP, Carl 'EYE, 'JJ and others started the original 75m QRP movement & 'net, conditions were far worse, yet they made it work just fine. As with any net in the past, flexibility to move around rather than requiring frequency ownership made all the difference. Some weeks will be good, others won't. It's radio, after all.

Bruce,

I was excited to hear you were using the K3 on the AWA net. I was out in the cabin monitoring on my 857 backpack HFpack rig and the ZS6KBW doublet in the trees. As I recall, I did note that you had 'space shuttle' audio, so maybe you were using the narrow filter.

Good for another 6dB at least!

Hey how about an IRF-510 modulated by a pair?  Solid state but with a classic layout (drain modulated).
Treat them fets like diodes, should be good for QRP AM with good audio and EL cheapo construction.

Thanks Kevin, will need to look into that, hope to do testing tonight.
Seems the K3 also has a TX and RX audio EQ built in, will need to check those settings.

Should be back on, different net time, this coming Sunday, hope you can make the net.

I will try to be on the net at whatever time Bruce.

When are you testing tonight? What freq? Listening now on the SDR-IQ remotely, and will be in and out of the shack this evening. Could give a listen for you. Maybe record and play back some of your transmissions if you'd like.
