While on vacation in Kansas last week I acquird a number of parts, two Boomerang's and a Western Electric tube with a ceramic four pin socket.

It appears to be a glass envelope Tetrode with four base pins and some type of weird plate cap: number on tube is 524417.

I will most likely tear down the Boomerangs for the power transformers, coils, and caps.

As for the tube, is it useful for any AM projects or should I use it as a display item?

i think we'll need a picture of the tube. From what you describe, it may be a ring modulator tube that acts as an electronic switch to pulse a magnetron radar tube.

Most Western Electric tube codes that made it to production had the code preceded with "WE". However, there were probably hundreds of experimental, prototypes, or those that never made it beyond the prototype state, that were just assigned a "X" drawing code that consisted of 4, 5, or 6 digits. Sounds like you have shelf queen.
