RCA WF-48A frequency deviation meter hackery

Thanks to John K5PRO I'm physically looking at a near pristine RCA WF-48A frequency deviation meter. I am very grateful he brought this to me at the hotel in Los Alamos.

This is an almost 2FT tall rackmount unit intended to be used with a BTA-250 BC rig and indicate if the rig is deviating from its assigned xtal freq.

I'd like to investigate whether this can be put on 160M and made frequency agile by means of using an external stabilized master oscillator and maybe some unobtrusive mods. If a manual is out there, that would be kindly apreciated. I have not found it on the www yet.

The goal is to test it with the BTA-250 on 160M so that when I change crystals in the -250, the meter can be set via the external precision oscillator to accomodate the selected 'channel' and indicate the amount of drift or deviation from the selected frequency.

I realize all that fuss is not necessary and I could just use a precision MO to drive the BTA250 in the first place, but it falls under the heading of 'fun'.
