If you're planning to dash out for only one quick look -­ it is December, after all -­ choose this moment: 03:17 am EST (17 minutes past midnight PST). That's when the Moon will be in deepest shadow, displaying the most fantastic shades of coppery red.

I drank a big glass of O.J. before hitting the sack to guarantee I would wake up at 2:45. Just like an alarm I was up. I looked from the bedroom window and the moon was just coming over the house. After about 30 seconds my kneck started to really hurt so bagged it. More yellow than red.

Heavy overcast here. I used my iphone app to find the moons position thinking I might see something through a gap in the clouds but nothing. Temperatures in the teens made for short stay times. Oh Well.

We had light clouds in places down here, but the moon, Orion, and most of the sky was clearly visible. Got a good look at 2:45-2:50, then headed back for the warm bed. Tried to snap a couple shots with the crappy digital camera, but doubt they came out. Somewhere I have a roll of ASA3200 35mm film that would've been just the ticket!

Pretty interesting colors here, varied from plum red to a peachy orange/copper. Certainly a sight worth seeing, even at 3AM.

I was working last night so I was already awake.  I got to see the moon being "eaten" up by shadow up till about 80% then the clouds obscured everything.

Was sure I would sleep through it, but happened to be awake at 3:30 AM EST.  Looked out the window.  The moon was a deep red, surrounded by white-yellow highlights.  It was very close to the constellation of Orion.   Very clear night.  Beautiful sight.  The XYL saw it at 4:30, when the moon was about half covered with the shadow.

Got up to look, 2 cameras and 2 telescopes in hand...

Way to cloudy to bother ( has been for more than 2 weeks )

Maybe next time

2 chances in 2014
and 2 chances in 2015

2011 we wont see much color here in the eastern US but well still see the eclipse.

Then just partial eclipses in 2012 and 2013.

Went out to look.  Was at work anyway.  100% thick overcast.  I would say maybe next time, but really doubt if I will make that one.

Saw it for a few minutes when I was walking my little girl in the back yard a little after 3 AM when the cloud cover opened it. Looked the same as the last time I saw it. She wasn't impressed either.

I slept through it but it's nice to know the daylight hours are now getting longer.
