..my '950 is getting worse...now the s-meter does not move, must function buttons dont do anything...cant change bands, etc....is it possible, the battery might be at fault?..it has never been changed...at first the rig did not tx, now other things are happening, or not happening!..   any ideas?..

Often when one of those boxes starts acting weird the problem turns out to be low voltage from the power supply.   if the rig is supposed to run on "12 v. dc" it should really be up around 14 right at the supply.  That rig has a built-in linear supply as I recall, but I'd still check the v. coming out of it.   I had an 850 once that got all squirrelly on me until I put it on a solid 13.8 v. with around 30 A capacity and all problems vanished.

Email kc6mcw.  Joe rebuilt one of those that went down a Flight of stairs.  He knows the radio inside and out and has modified it heavily for AM.

I will ask him to get on here and help you...
