Gack
It seems that when I click onto a topic here,  a new window opens up.  I usta just click onto a subject, it would open, and by back arrowing, get back to where I started from. Now, a new window opens,  the back arrow isn't highlighted and I don't even have the  "X-in-a-box". While the little window tabs on the tool bars are nice colors, Like Barbara S., I want to get back to the way things were. This also happens on other websites. I hope I don't have to do a restore to the sustem. Someone offer a sugestion.

Also, this strange object apears; up and down arrow in a cyrkle, like a page dragger, shows up.

flumuxed,

KLC,

Not a problem I have run into but take a look at Internet settings in the control panel.  (access from the start menu).  Take a look at tabbed settings and also advanced, you may need to use the reset options button on the advanced tab.  I use Firefox but I believe it will import/use settings for IE so changing the settings for IE will cause these settings to migrate to other browsers.

Good luck!

When did it stop working the way you wanted it to work?

On my IE 8, when I go to TOOLS > Internet Options > TABS > Settings Open links from other programs in: "A new tab in the current window" is checked.

Sometimes, when you change some options in IE, you have to close IE completely, and then start it up again for the new option to work.

Try looking in TOOLS -> Internet Options -> Tabbed Browsing Settings near the bottom and make sure "Open links from other programs in:" is not checked to open a new window. Also on this page, make sure that tabbed browsing is turned on.

Just a couple of ideas........Bill

(Yeah, like Pete said while I was typing this!)

Try anudder moose. Sounds like the scroll button is stuck.

The colored tab boxes and the scroll icon would indicate a bad mouse.

Before you dig a deeper hole try this...........

When the computer is booting lovingly keep pressing F8 to get to the screen mentioned below.

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature
To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
Start your computer.
When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

I had a similar joke on me. An EXCEL file for our home finances all of a sudden turned into a "read-only". What the HE** or who changed the settings of that file??? I almost started yelling at my wife, then I just did the steps above. I still hate computers.

I don't allow any of my cats in the shack.  They like to explore warm cosy little places they can slither into and curl up, like the +1300v power supply and the modulator sections of one of my HB rigs that no longer has a side cover.

I can't  use the bathroom in peace without closing the door.  And even then, the wailing and scratching at the door is a problem.

FWIW,

40 odd years ago my OM would take me with him when he visited his old neighbors, 'down on the farm'. The VanJuras had a diesel powered milking machine.  They had a cat that looked like it had two a**h***s. The cat liked to sleep over the belt fed compressor; one day the cats tail got caught in the belt and the cat flew away. It came back in a weak or so; looking like it had two a**h****s.  ......  a true story.

Boy I hear that!
I have a cat that lives in the shop where the radios are. Tom is a good cat and and I like him. Therefore I keep everything buttoned up so he can't stick a paw in somewhere where he can get hurt. If HE can't get a paw in into the high voltage, I can't do it either.

IBM issued a service bulletin to the field back in the "good old days" on the care and cleaning of mouse balls. Somewhere around here, I believe I still have that bulletin.

If that is a real bulletin Dilbert works in our office!!!
I don't know what is crazier--the dual orifice cat or the mouse with smegma, although I think scrofula is a better term.
