Someone did a mod to the IC-746 (non-pro) so that the AM is upward. Apparently this problem was corrected on later models of the IC-746. Can anyone give me a reference to that modification?
Thanks,
Ken

I think this might be an ALC thing

W8JI posted a simple circuit to fool SSB rigs on AM by supplying a voltage to the ALC.  It consists of a pot and a battery.

Check it out at the bottom of his AM page:

Thanks for the lead, it is also a good site for info on AM in general.
That gets me closer to the long term fix.

My old IC-756 (non-pro) has downward modulation, no matter what power level I operate it at. People say it sounds OK, but I really don't like it...

That's the ALC cutting back your power.  That little battery/pot circuit might just correct it.

I'm gonna give that circuit a try and see what happens...

Now, if I could just find a decent AM rx filter for this thing ;-)
