John,

We believe it to be one of the FrekoJammers who lives on the Wisconsin/Minnesota border.

If you have a steerable antenna, point it about 300 degrees compass heading from your QTH.

He isn't the only one. With the advent of riceboxes and cheap AMPS, there are a number of them out there. Some play music, some play back recordings, some belch, some use foul language.

I was going to introduce my nieces to Ham radio but I dont think I'll do it for awhile until the ghetto gets cleaned up.

I hear the same thing periodically.  Some appears to be AM, but hard to tell due to terrible audio.  May be misadjusted SSB, too.  Also heard one late at night that sounded like the growler-type jamming transmitter; don't remember the AN/ number.  Takes all kinds.  But I can normally hear W9BFO over everything.

What I usually hear is an unmodulated (usually pissweak) carrier that sounds like someone tuning up slightly off frequency, but nobody ever attempts to break in, and the tuner-upper continues for the duration of the entire QSO.

Next time this happens I will try to get a fix, I have contacted the amateur arm of the FCC and they have been very receptive.

Fantastic John.

Don, I hear the same thing when I am up late working on projects. This guy will get about 500 Hz away from an AM QSO and just sit there with a carrier for a few minutes, then go somewhere else and come back.

However, the signal strength of this guy is relatively high here at my QTH and often wipes out the east coast guys but not you and Clark, or Rob, K5UJ, or BVT.

To-night (Saturday PM) there was a strong jammer dumping some kind of white noise, centred precisely between 3885 and 3900.  Sounded a lot like the DRM signal at 3990-4000.  It was audible on 3892, so naturally the idiots were pissing 'n moaning that some "AM'er" was transmitting the signal just to interfere with them, although it was causing more interference to the QSO on 3885 than it was to 3892.

I fired up on 3885 and managed to snag Grant, W4BVT, whose carrier was strong enough to fully quieten the frequency, and later Robert, W0VMC joined us.  We were able to carry on with the noise relegated to the background, and by the time we finished the QSO the jammer was long gone. We made it a point not to even mention the noise in our conversation.

the only cure for jamming is to strap enough to be Bad & Nationwide. With your 60 over 9 carrier and 135 % modulation displayed ; nobody give's you trouble cause they know you got it made.

Bad & Nationwide - One of ZZ Top's best- along with the radio themed "Heard It On The X"! Maybe someone can come up with some AMer oriented lyrics for B&NW?

Well I was loadin’ up the feed with a two ton maul,
I had some four-by’s in back, and the hypersil of Dahl.
We tuning through the ghetto in the middle of the night,
We drinking and I'm smokin' and we feelin' alright.
Oh I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Yes I'm bad, I'm nationwide.

Five thousand volts of lightning in a new relay rack,
I had a vacuum switch in front, I had three more in the back.
The slop-buckets try me, but they got no clue,
I just don’t give a damn what they think they can do.
'Cause we bad, we nationwide.
Yeah we bad, we nationwide.

Well I was countin’ up the stations in the Buzzard QSO,
I had a fine long talk, I had to hand it over.
With my lexan shield and my glass tube displayed,
No buckets give me trouble cause they know I got it made.
I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Well I'm bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, I'm nationwide.

/////////
Well I was rollin' down the road in some cold blue steel,
I had a blues man in back, and a beautician at the wheel.
We going downtown in the middle of the night
We laughing and I'm jokin' and we feelin' alright.
Oh I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Yes I'm bad, I'm nationwide.

Easin' down the highway in a new Cadillac,
I had a fine fox in front, I had three more in the back.
They sportin' short dresses, wearin' spike-heel shoes,
They smokin' Lucky Strikes, and wearing nylons too.
'Cause we bad, we nationwide.
Yeah we bad, we nationwide.

Well I was movin' down the road in my V-8 Ford,
I had a shine on my boots, I had my sideburns lowered.
With my New York brim and my gold tooth displayed,
Nobody give me trouble cause they know I got it made.
I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Well I'm bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, I'm nationwide.

OPCOM
Good adaptation fo the original tune.
Definitely sounds like a song DERB would play on his James Brown station
