In the Links section of this site,  that 5 KW Collins 820E/F1 has one day to go ... No bids,  BIN  $1500,  or $3000 for TWO.  It is in NJ  with some spares.  At the very least some nice parts for those with some room.  IIRC thas two motorized Vac Variables in the Final Plate tank ...

I would have to build it into the wall and then deny that the room seems smaller.

Vic,

If I lived in N.J. and had a few bills sitting around with nothing to do I'd be on it like a duck on a junebug.   I have a hunch about the station selling them.  Not too long ago one of the AMs in the Meadowlands had to move to a new tx site.  Anyway I sure hope someone keeps these from winding up in the dreaded L-word place.   My limited experience tells me that the price becomes negotiable if you show up with cash money and everything needed to convince them you're really going to have the rigs out of there in a few hours.   I feasted my eyes on the iron, rectifiers, inductors,  caps and all the other goodies.  I even imagined where they'd go in my garage, both of 'em.  Yes, I am greedy.  Did I mention the tubes?   Cheesy

You have the electric company install it to your house and run three phase.

It would probably cost you in excess of a $1.00 and hour to run it at full tilt on 160 and you would really be heard. Here in NYS we are allowed 20,000 pep so it would be just about right Grin Grin

I'd want everything in a cement block house and that would include the feeder through the wall. Lots of fire in those wires. They look like 4CX5000 tubes. Let's see 7. 5 volt filaments at 234 amps for the three. You could duct the heat into your house and when you do an old buzzard, your saving on oil.

Regarding the Tubes,  if it is like its older brother,  the 21 E/ M,  It would run 3CX2500 A3 (a pair in the 10Kw 21 M) in the Final an 3CX3000A1's in the Modulator IIRC.

Looks like the Mod Trans is oil-filled.  One can get about 2/3rds power from split phase instead of 3-phase.  Of course,  split phase power,  the ripple freq is only 120 Hz instead of 360 Hz with 3-phase,  so perhaps the HV PS would need a bit more C, and perhaps L,

A friend had the power co put in 3-phase Open Delta,  which requires only two pole pigs.  Dunno what it cost,  but it was in a residential neighborhood.

 BUT ...

Hope someone here snags them.  73  GL  Vic

The tubes shown have handles. The type your talking about, do not. That is if I didn't misunderstand you.

Phil, K2PG, runs a 21E that I helped lug up from his storage box in NJ to NE PA. Of course he's ALWAYS running it on the low power tap.  Wink

PFY Terry,

YEP,  You are correct,  them ARE handles !   My Poor vision ...

Gotta be 5000's of some kind.  This is good if they are 4X5s, as they need much less drive.  I did hang around a Collins 820 something,  Had thought that it was an 821E something,  and it ran Triodes in the finals I think,  but ...

Do not find much on the web for the stated model number of this rig,  just manuals.

I shudda put on the glasses to look at the photos of the finals.

Go get 'em !   73  Vic

FWIW, when I was working for the power company before I retired in 2005 I called the higher ups at the main office to find out what it would cost to have 3 phase power run to my house from a distance of about 1200 to 1500 feet.  The estimate was $12,000 minimum for the installation charge and with a minimum charge of around $100 per month at 0 KWH's use.  They actually recommended I move to a closer location where 3PH was available.  Needless to say I elected to run my lathe and milling machine on homebrew 3PH which worked out ok by using a rotary phase converter that I built from a 5HP 3PH electric motor. The crazy thing is at one time we had 3PH that ran right where the single phase now is.  We had a coal mine substation down the road that required it for over 40 years.  Then the mine shut down and the power company ripped down the other two phases immediately after the coal mine substation was removed.

I didn't find a lot of info.  What is the tube lineup.  There appear to be two tubes and a single, implying a transformer coupled modulator.  Most of the PWM rigs I've seen only have one tube in the modulator and one in the RF (at 5kw, that is).

Regards,

Steve

Mod xfmr shown on RH side. Must be 4CX5000s.

Look at the yellow PCB stickers on the cabinet door and all the capacitors. The doorknobs even appear to have stickers too!

They missed the vacuum variables though Cheesy
