I do this in my head for the conversion:

pF -> 12 places past the decimal

so I move the decimal left three places and I have nF (nano farads)

move it three more and I have uF(mF) micro farads

so 10000 pf becomes 10 nano farads which becomes .01 uF.

OK, this just my head, it does not mean that your head should behave in the same way.  ;-)

I think a normal head would just think, "move the decimal six places to the left".

Ages ago I repeated the following mantra until it stuck:

.001uF = 1000pF
.001uF = 1000pF
.001uF = 1000pF

Them nano-things have me stumped tho.

Sometimes caps will be marked with another numbering scheme as well (K).

102K = .001uF

103K = .01uF

104K = .1uF

Sometimes they will only have the 3 digit K number.

OOOHH I forgot there's a link on the Internet for those critters too.
