Why stop at 5m?  On to the liberation of 1715-1800 kHz and give that back to hams, too!

Don,
Here here! I second that.  Most people forgot that a portion of 160M was taken away from us. Let's re-extend the band to 2050 like it was at one time. From what I here not many, if any services use 2000-2050 as well as 1715-1800KC.

The more bandspace the better.

Mod-U-Later and Merry Christmas.

The band was 1715-2000, with 1715-1800 CW only.  Just before WW2 it was changed to 1750-2050, but I don't know if anyone actually got to use the 2000-2050 kHz portion before Pearl Harbor.

LOL. What good would this do? We can't even get most AMers to move off of 1880/85 now, even when two AM QSOs are QRMing each other.

Steve,
I think the point being made here is that we've had some bandwidth taken away from 160M, from what it was before WWII.

Yeah, I know what you mean about two AM QSO's snuggling up to each other! I've been on 1885 whilst there was a QSO going on 1880 and someone else testing on 1895. Sometimes you'll have a slopbucket QSO going on 1880 or 1882 and 1891.5. I try to go between them as not to cause any quirm to them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

Have a Happy New Year and hope to talk to you on the aether!

Yeah, kind of  like 3880 and 3885 on 75.

BTW, I did hear a good AM group on 3720 last night.  I even have a xtal for that frequency if I want to go rock-bound.  But I was tuned up on 160 and didn't try to change over to 75.

I suppose if we did get the entire 1750-2050 band back, it might possibly relieve some of the slopbucket QRM even if the AM stations insisted on staying in the "window", but then, the slopbucketeers would probably insist on staying on "their" frequency too.

Just like the slopbucketeers.  They all run xtal control.  Operate the same frequency night after night, talking to the same half dozen guys, and can't QSY even if the  frequency is already in use before they come on.
