We are going to experience the wrath of Winter as antenna testing WX is approaching the midwest and heading East.
I'll be checking my stuff out in the dark right after work.

Wind about 35mph now.  Supposed to be 20-40 tonight.  Rain and fog/mist.  Checked mine 2 weeks ago.  Found a bad support rope; good thing I fixed it.

Yep, it's coming your way guys. Shocked

http://w1.spc.woc.noaa.gov/products/wwa/

We now have heavy snow, whiteout conditions with winds > 35 mph. (3:45 cst).

I shoveled once already but it may be in vain with the blowing snow. We're expecting drifts over 3 feet.

Christmas lights look awful perty against the white stuff. Cheesy

Here ya go!
Right now at 4 PM local it's -2 F on the porch.
Nice 'breeze' out of the north, even the horses are shivering.

Thank God for Sorels.
Good time to be inside with an AM rig running!

Icing is almost unheard of here. Too dry.

Just got home a few minutes ago.  First storm always is a test to see how greasy the tires are after a spring summer and fall of tread wear.  Snow is wet and heavy now.  Left scraper on roof of car (by mistake of course) and it stayed there the whole way home stuck in snow.   this one a nice antenna test.  gusts forecasted to be up to 40 mph.  Not too bad.  went around and re-tensioned the guy ropes on Sunday when I heard about it.  only prob. now is lightning has reared its ugly head in the wx prediction.  I hate disconnecting at night out in the slush.    Nothing on the vaisala strike map yet though.

Another nice thing about snow like this is sometimes it changes or deadens arcing on power lines.   I drove around the neighborhood and the situation has changed but still some line noise going on so I'm going to have to get out with my receivers and do the legwork around this part of town and find these little sparkettes; they sprout up like dandilions every fall when the air gets cold and dry.

The sleet is falling right now here in Tallmadge, Ohio. Just fixed the 160 antenna. Hope this doesn't pull it down!

WX doing something funky with the inverted L and/or feedline on 160.  After about 5 or 10 minute 250 w. xmission the vswr into the L network tuner changes.  But the L network tuned the load FB with no vswr creep before the wx moved in.  going to go out and swap the 75 m. vert. feedline with the 160 m. L feedline and see if that changes anything.  forecast now sez gusts to 50 mph today.

Talking with Tron on @3700 last night I had a few snaps in the loading cap on the afterburner. Looked outside to see the wet snow but that was it.

The storm kinda piss-weaked it's way to the south of me. No big deal.
