Amid the massive static crashes, tuning around to see who was on, I heard a beacon at my QTH on Long Island, NY at 3.810 at about 12 midnight EST (0500 GMT). Turns out it's the beacon from HD2IOA, located in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Real long!

That beacon is audible almost any night with reasonably normal conditions.

Interesting ... see that's what a good antenna does I guess. I never heard it before, until now since I have put up my new wire. It's a compromise antenna, 80m Windom (not a Carolina) flat-top @ about 50', but it seems to receive well. I guess I'll find out if I can get out on it at all soon enough. Wish I had the real estate, but living in LI suburban hell here. Nimby land.

Listen for the RTTY on 3783 to determine conditions to western Europe.
