Am I correct in assuming that I can connect a regular frequency counter to the output of the HF Osc/Cathode follower and see what frequency the receiver is tuned to?

thanks all

Tom,

The frequency read out will be off by 1682 Khz. (the first IF frequency) since you are reading the actual oscillator frequency.

Tom,

I can't think of any easy way to do this with a regular counter, hopefully someone else has an idea.  The dedicated displays have a programmed (or programmable) offset so that the display is correct.  The HFO in the Mohawk operates at 1682 Khz. above the received frequency.

National RF advertises a universal readout for vintage gear and I believe there is another company that also makes a "digital dial" for vintage gear.

I know I can use one of the many modern counters with programable offset, but it won't look right  Grin     I am looking into a used one with nixie tubes!   It will show 1682KC above what it is actually at.  Maybe I can make an "unmixer" to subtract the 1682KC  Roll Eyes

NorCal has a small frequency counter pcb assembly kit that will do the offset.  It used to cost $35 as I recall.

FCC-1 with LCD.

Someone sent me this link a while ago:
http://www.pongrance.com/ddfc.html

which will do what I want, but I don't want to use an LED/LCD counter...
