The Hamfesters radio club of Chicago has field day.  Note the then new Harvey Wells TBS-50 transmitters.

Great image, thanks for posting!

Asdide from the cool gear, neat to see the TBS-50s at work, I noticed two things, 1) Two YLs in the photo 2) How amazingly thin the YL in the foreground is, wow!

When was the last time you saw a YL in radio, much less during Field Day?  Wink

Note the S-38 receiver and the HT-18 transmitter/VFO. Cool stuff!

Don't you love those colorful old covers, Rodger? The old Radio News and Radio Craft are some of my favorite reads of the time.

Your post reminded me that somewhere in the yet-to-be-unpacked boxes of stuff lies a photo or two of Field Day from the late 1930s with William Lightfoot W1PEG at the controls, his son Bill sitting on his knee, and a then-new National NC-81X in the background with an ancient generator. William was an engineer for Raytheon back in the day and had quite a collection of goodies, including some very nice HB gear. After he passed away in the early 90s, his son passed many of those items on to me, including the NC-81X. Some of his other items appeared last year at an AWA auction here in NC.

When I find the photo, I'll scan it in and post it here. It's still hard to get my head around the fact that the nice old gent who sent the receiver my way was the little boy sitting on his dad's knee in the picture. The radio has barely aged in comparison. Wink
