A new publication, 50 Years of Amateur Radio Innovation -- Transceivers, Receivers and Transmitters: 1930-1980, highlights theses treasured favorites in a way that has never been seen before and is the latest addition to the ARRL Library.

But it's all commercially made gear. Where's the amateur radio innovation?

Many were started by hams in garages or sheds and a few grew into full blown factory operations. There's a lot of ham innovation in the stories behind some of those companies.

Link works here.
Plus, the book includes, "50 Years of Amateur Radio Innovation takes you on a guided tour of more than 400 of these legendary radios, lovingly restored by their owners and gorgeously photographed by Joe Veras, K9OCO. Each photo includes a brief description along with the year the radio was introduced and its selling price at that time." Of course, Joe's photography skills are fantastic. I own every one of the vintage equipment calendar's he did the photography for and were sold by CQ Magazine.

Similar information can be found in Moore's books on receivers (covering 1932 to 1981) and transmitters (covering 1930 to 1980), Osterman's book on Receivers Past and Present (covering 1942 to 1997), Penson's book on Heathkit (Guide to the Amateur Radio Products), Francis's book on Mil Spec Radio Gear, Dachis's book on Radios By Hallicrafters, and probably several others that slip my mind.
