I never had a tremendous knowledge in the subject of electric motors, but my interest recently perked up when my son gave me a half-dozen antique Hunter ceiling fans, and I am hoping to successfully restore at least some of them.  The following web site explains some of the fundamentals of basic single-phase AC motors.

Hi Don,

Well same here, i was a little interested in that Levitation situation, I never knew that applying an external current source created inertia on a suspended magnetic body.  As well I thought it interesting applying current through a magnet and completing a circuit like that first address made for an interesting observation.

Ya know little things like that once in awhile make for interesting experiments..that Youtube is kinda handy ..
