Feeding a FT-101E

Have any of ya'll ever feed a FT-101e with 600 ohm audio from the rack?? I am thinking of doing it, but no use in re-inventing the wheel.
Another question. Is Yaesu Am a Singleside band with Carrier or Dsb with carrier?

I know this probably won't do you much good since I don't have a 101 but I do have a 102.  The 102 is DSB w/carrier, true AM.

I believe the 101 is the same as well as several people have 101's on the air with some very good sounding AM audio.

it's true AM - carrier with 2 slopbuckets attached.

theres a mod to do for feeding the 600 ohm audio into he phone patch - I think you have to cut a trace on a board or something to feed line level audio into it directly. I'm planning on doing it to mine so I can feed audio output from a computer into it.

There's also mods for the transmit audio and recieve audio that make hem sound as good as any rig on the air. Also a pretty easy mod to change the final tubes out to 6146B's. type in ft-101 mods in google.

I have heard very bad things about the 6146B mod. Lots of impeadence issues.

Hey Derb, I didn't find anything about feeding a 600 ohm into the Patch connection on the net. If you decide to do this drop me a note here and I'll look at it as well. I want to see just how strappin of audio I can get out of the 101 and use it as my on the road AM station with the GG amp.

Do the HenryYellRRRR audio mods on both transmit and receive, stick the AM filter in it, do the am mod on the mode switch, and you'll sound as good as or better than any signal on the air.

I wish I had gone this route many years ago.

Well bad news on the Ya'hell 101E, had a set of original NEC go bad, I bought four used but supposedly tested 6LB6's off E-pay.. and yes they are bad as well. So no AM until I buy NEW finals...

there's a mod you HAVE to do to the radio when using USA finals. There a fixed neutro cap of 100pf hanging offa the variable, gotta change this to 10pf @ 1000 vdc or your finals wont last long. and they use nothing but 6JS6C's as far as I know. Where did you come up with LB6's? Bad info i thinks.

PB-1184A:

Change C12 from 0.22 uF to 2.2 uF (+ towards R7/8/9 )(use C11 removed from PB-1315).
Change C2 from 0.01 uF to 0.001 uF.
For high level auxilliary input from tape deck or other source cut L36 from pin 5 and connect to pin 4 of PB-1315 board.

Right off the Foxtango group page, they only have 7pf difference and match pin for pin. No circuit changes and only 40w less max output. I little know interchangeable. Cost as little as 11.50/pupe.. You don't even have to change the cap in-line with the nut. variable. just wished the ones i bought on e-play were good.
I think my e-play days are done, keep getting junk every time.
