In many tube-type circuits I see it common to use an incandescent lamp run from secondary side filament power to indicate mains power on.

In the power supplies I am working on I do not have this luxury.  So I was wondering if using a simple and cheap neon lamp on the primary side is ok instead, or are they somehow problematic?  I was wondering if they tend to induce unwanted noise into the supply that will end up in my signal.

And they require about 67 volts or thereabouts to fire, so they wouldn't work off an ordinary filament winding anyway.
