Hi Guys,

Just been bitten by the SDR bug this morning. Going to be ordering the Soft Rock 6 as soon as I find the place to order from. Downloaded Power SDR 1.10.3, Rocky and I2PHD.

Question now is, what sound card do I need to use all of this cool equipment?  I have a Pentium 4 2.4GHz with 1G RAM, on an EPOX motherboard with Intel 845G chipset and AC97 audio and SPDIF.

Does anyone have or know about the M Audio Delta 44? It looks tres cool with balanced in /outs.

Cheers

Paul

Delta 44 is to popular one. Use version 1.9 software if you don't have a top of the line machine. Also get yourself a copy of I2phd software.

softrock40@yahoogroups.com

join this Gang and ask Tony how to order a kit. Make sure you tell him the IF frequency or operating frequency. He also has TX kits that run QRP. I would use a different transformer on the input. I used a 2 hole core type 77 with 3 turns trifilar #28 wire. fc

BTW a stock sound card will get you up and running. That is what I used before getting the HPSDR

Hi Frank,

Should I be getting version 6 or version 7? Looks like they are both available.

Thanks

Are FETs supposed to glow like that?

If you are getting just an RX kit.... don't worry too much about the card......

If you're getting the TX/RX kit you will likely want TWO souncards!

Look through the forum Frank sent the link for to get lots of info first....

By the way, I have an "IF" kit, and an 80/40 RX/TX ....
Both built, and both "in a box somewhere".... not being used anymore.....

I have both the 6 is better because the I/Q LO is generated with flip flops rather than filters. This is much more accurate. 7 you would have to adjust the filter delay every time you change frequency. The 6 needs a crystal running at 4 or 8 X operating frequency. Not a problem for an IF converter. I use a color burst crystal divided by 8. The 7 was done for the higher bands where digital logic would have a problem running at 4 or 8X. Just tell Tony you need a crystal to do 455 kHz IF input.
I'm thinking of putting a pair of 6s in my R2307 dual Cubic.

....paul, tim here...i've been hearing you the last few nights, on 75..the band, of course can be very busy here, in the east.
when i was living in calgary, i rarely werked any am guys, except on 40, and 10. there were 2 guys on 160, but pretty poor, over all...
anyway, there is a lot of guys out this way, on 3680-3740.  the ve3 AM guys hang out on 3725, and have been doing it for about 10 yrs, if you can join us. i dont know if u r rock bound, or vfo...it is a helluva lot quieter lower in the band....tim....sk...

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the report. Where are you now?

My Bauer is pretty fussy about hanging around 3870-3890..I may be able to force it to 3725 without too much fuss. I just don't want to get into the final cct again and start retuning.  Could try with the Kenwood and amp Supply linyar.

Thanks Tim,

Paul
