I saw that too, Frank. The original Cake Pan transmitter!

That has to be the best ham radio film I've seen on there so far. Anyone into old gear or CW is bound to enjoy it. Good catch, Carl.  Wink

Here's one posted by Bob Peters over on the AMRadio reflector. It may already be on here somewhere already. If so, apologies for the duplication.

More of a polar opposite to the old ham film, not even radio-specific. More of a 'Vacuum Tube Meets Yellow Submarine' LSD Trip. Interesting though, if for no other reason than to see the disk caps swimming inside tubes, meters morphing, and electrolytics dancing about. Even has a Veeder-Root type of readout on the gear.

Definitely has a 60s flavor to it.

How appropriate is the BO Morris Code musical interlude in the beginning?

A refreshing look at ham radio, back in the day!
I loved the shot glasses as insulators and standoffs for the air variable!
And the eggbeater (when was the last time you saw one of those?), use for coil winding.
Did you catch the National SW-3, with the lid on, in the background?

How does one "capture" or download the video stream?
I'd like to keep a copy of that on my system.

Check out this website. http://vixy.net/  Simply paste in the url of the YouTube video.  If and when it works, it will convert it to Flash Video format on the site, which you can then download and save to your hard drive.  You will need software that converts the .flv file.  A free download is linked to the site.

It doesn't always work 100% for me, and it can take a while to convert and dowload.  Sometimes the video stalls at about 91% complete and I have to cancel and start over.  It can be a PITA, but I usually can eventually get a complete download.  So far I haven't been able to get it to work on anything but YouTube, but it's supposed to work also with  Google Video, Reuters.com, Yahoo! Video, MySpace and BBC news clips.

This service allows you convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's videos, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. It is using a compressed domain transcoder technology (outline in Japanese). It converts FLV to MPEG4 faster and less lossy than a typical transcoder.

When you submit an url, it will download and convert to the video format. Then you can download the converted file.

FLV to MPEG4 Conveter engine is now OpenSource. You can download the source code via subversion: http://sourceforge.net/svn/?group_id=183657

For Windows users: Please install DivX to play DivX AVI.

Just use the Perian plug-in to play FLV directly in your Quicktime player. No conversions needed.

Thanks Steve, that was sweet!

Downloaded like a charm, and the Perian viewer works great in Quicktime!
I just had to add the file extension "flv" to the downloaded file so it would play.

Now, the real challenge, how do I burn this to a DVD so I can watch it on TV?

You need a DVD burner and a program called Nero StartSmart.  Don't know if it's available for Macs, as I use a PC.

I already downloaded the movie, and burned  a DVD.

Why burn a DVD? Just connect your computer to your TV.

Notice in the film the guys wearing the obligatory neck tie.  Papa and grandpa, and the kid while he was winding the coil using the eggbeater.

I bet KL7OF knows where Teller, Alaska is.

Man, between the lighthouse, the biplane, and Jimmy's sister (who put me in a trance* (especially at time hack 9:29 ), there's a lot going on in this film.

*I know, I know, she would be in her 80s now
